On December 9, the scientific and technological achievement appraisal meeting for the Shanghai Puhe Pure Oxygen Pressurized (1.0 MPa) Fluidized Bed Biomass Gasification Technology, organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, was held in Beijing. The meeting was chaired by Zhao Ming, Director of the Science, Technology and Equipment Department of the Federation. A seven-member expert panel, led by Chen Yong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Gu Zongqin, Chairman of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, formed the appraisal committee and conducted a comprehensive review of the technology.

The expert panel unanimously concluded that the achievement is highly innovative, with the overall technology reaching an internationally advanced level. In particular, it has achieved key technological breakthroughs in tar control and carbon conversion rate, reaching an internationally leading level in these aspects, and is ready for commercial promotion.
In response to common industry challenges in the biomass gasification sector, such as high energy consumption, difficult tar control and poor feedstock adaptability, Sunpower, together with LONGi Green Energy, Towngas, Jiangsu Yanxin and Shanghai Puming, jointly invested in and established Shanghai Puhe Green Carbon Clean Energy Technology Co., Ltd. The company is dedicated to developing pressurized fluidized bed gasification technology with independent intellectual property rights and promoting the engineering application of efficient and clean biomass conversion pathways.
In July 2024, Shanghai Puhe started the construction of its pilot plant in Inner Mongolia. The plant achieved mechanical completion in April 2025 and completed its first feedstock trial run on May 27 of the same year. As of November 2025, the facility had successfully completed seven rounds of trial combustion, with cumulative operation exceeding 1,000 hours and more than 2,200 tonnes of various biomass and refuse-derived fuel, or RDF, pellets gasified.

On-site performance assessment showed outstanding technical results. The tar concentration at the gasification outlet was as low as 11.12 mg/Nm³, approaching near-zero emissions. Under fines return operating conditions, the carbon conversion rate reached 98%, demonstrating excellent reaction efficiency and system stability, and earning high recognition from the expert panel. The expert panel recommended that the pilot platform be developed into a domestic R&D and testing base for common biomass gasification technologies, so as to promote technological progress across the industry.
As China continues to advance its dual-carbon goals, biomass energy, as an important component of renewable and clean energy, is gaining increasing strategic importance in terms of efficient conversion technologies. Looking ahead, Sunpower Tech Group will continue to increase investment in technology R&D, promote engineering optimization and industrial application of the technology, and provide new technical solutions for the green and low-carbon transformation of the industrial sector.
